America’s Christian Credit Union (ACCU), a faith-based financial institution headquartered in Glendora, CA, has announced its member-generated Visa® Platinum GiveBack award recipients for the second quarter of 2019. In keeping with its mission of building stronger communities, families, and ministries, ACCU will divide the donation of nearly $13,000 among these ministries: World Mission Broadcast, a project of Church of the Nazarene Global Missions; Olive Crest, which serves at-risk children in California, Nevada, and the Pacific Northwest; and The Legacy Center, a nonprofit in New York City.
Each of these strategic partners is transforming the lives of individuals and communities in significant ways. The Legacy Center (TLC), for instance, is committed to instilling hope and joy into families experiencing poverty by helping them to address the many challenges they face, and to guide them toward building a positive legacy that their children can embrace and sustain.
TLC was founded in 1996, when the senior pastor of Christ Tabernacle, Michael Durso, and several church members began collaborating with community organizations to provide gifts for children whose parents were incarcerated, and to distribute backpacks filled with school supplies. In the last decade, TLC has expanded beyond Christ Tabernacle in the borough of Queens, and now serves all of New York City.
“We are very grateful to ACCU for selecting The Legacy this quarter,” says CEO Jordan Durso. “Apart from helping with our weekly food pantry, this gift will also provide back-to-school supplies for the many needy students we serve.”
The ACCU Visa® Platinum GiveBack program designates a portion of the revenues from everyday transactions by members to Kingdom causes. The dollars accumulated through the GiveBack program are tallied each quarter and divided into three or four equal shares, depending on how many ministry partners were selected. To date, the Visa® GiveBack program has allowed ACCU and its members to donate over $370,000 to mission-aligned organizations that are making an impact for the Kingdom.
